Awesome story!

That reminds me of a story from my childhood. My mother used to make homemade biscuits at least 5 meals every week, so we (the kids) ate it so often, it just wasn't special. I still remember having one of the other kids (older than me) over for dinner one night, and he just raved about the homemade biscuits. I think me and my siblings looked at him like he had a 3rd eye...there just wasn't anything special about having biscuits with a meal...lol

I didn't realize what I had until years later when I was in the Navy stationed in Florida, California, etc. and purchased canned biscuits. I usually ate one or two, then tossed the rest in the garbage. They just didn't hold a candle to the real thing...never have...lol

As for potatoes, my mom also only did real potatoes. She made traditional mashed potatoes, and also new potatoes. I got where I really loved the latter either mashed or served whole (and mashed them on my plate. Easy to make, and magically delicious...lol
